Headwaters Trail System

Beautiful ride!

May, 2023 by boulderjulie

We spent a day exploring the trails in this system, riding out to the Headwaters park, through the pond area, and along the edge of town and back. The area is stunningly beautiful, the town is full of friendly people (be sure to stop for lunch and pie at the Iron Horse in Three Forks!), and we could not have asked for a more beautiful day of riding. There are several good maps along the trail, but a few more would be helpful, especially since it's not just one trail but several that link up. We're giving this 5 stars because the scenery is so gorgeous, but the trail surface deserves a 3 or 4; some sections are smooth asphalt but some have bone-jarring cracks that need to be filled. Still-- we absolutely loved our day on this trail and can't believe we didn't see more people using it. We came to Three Forks specifically to ride this trail system, and we were not disappointed.

Great Allegheny Trail southeast of Pittsburgh?

Surprised to see this amazing trail that has great bed and breakfasts along it is not noted as part of the Great American Rail Trail. It sure would help demonstrate more GART completion if it was.

Myers' River View Trail

We love it, but….

We are disappointed to see that the current management plan seems to be about manicuring the grounds, rather than preserving the natural features. Lots of old trees have been cut and brush cleared away, leaving less cover for wildlife. If someone wants to spend money on this wonderful trail, how about getting patrols out there to enforce the leash-laws for dogs. My husband was bit by an off-leash dog on the trail this morning. No, it didn’t break the skin, and he didn’t call law enforcement, but it isn’t the sort of experience one wants to have when walking on a trail where leashes are required. Cool place, would hate to see it shut down because of people who don’t like the rules there.

Manhattan to the Gallatin River Trail

nice walking trail

I am not a super hiker and sometimes you just want a place close to home to walk. This trail fits the bill. You cross the river a few times on well Maintained bridges. If you park at the Belgrade access, there are restrooms. It can get a bit loud with road traffic - as it follows an ever busy road. Less than 2 miles from home, so we enjoy often. The entire trail down and back is just about 4 miles.

Headwaters Trail System

Disappointed

July, 2021 by joglazewski

For a trail with so much potential, this fell far short of expectations. Passes through beautiful scenery between a riverfront State Park, and cute little town.
Has not been given the attention it deserves. Asphalt surface cracked with painful gullies and erosions, NO signage. We rode back on a road with light traffic, but no shoulder and 70 mph speed limit to avoid having to ride this surface again.

Great ride today

We rode this trail from Toulon to Princeville today. It was great! The path was very good. It is mostly shaded. Excellent. We stopped in Wyoming on our way back for lunch. Ate at 111 Coffee Shop. Don’t be fooled, this is NOT just a coffee shop. The lunch was delicious. And it is decorated all with bikes! Perfect for us bikers. And check out the bathroom. Cute!!! Can’t wait to do more of the route from Princeville going south.

College/Huffine Trail

Nice Ride

July, 2020 by acewickwire

Location: Bozeman, MT
Trail Condition: Nice wide fairly new pavement.
Signage: Warning signs only.
Comments: Start at Montana State University and end on the edge of town. There is one major intersection that needs to be navigated. Nice for a bit of mileage, there are options for more miles by taking one of the intersecting bike paths. Pretty much a level ride.

Highland Boulevard Trail

Need A Hill Climb?

July, 2020 by acewickwire

Location: Bozeman, MT
Trail Condition: Nice wide fairly new pavement.
Signage: Warning signs only.
Comments: If starting from Main Street this is a climb to the finish but a nice downhill on the return. Check out trails in the nearby Lindley Park area. Can access them from this trail.
