Central City Trail (IA)

Very scenic and beautiful Trail!

May, 2023 by maria300

We rode this trail in late May, 2023. The concrete trail is very wide, and just a few slight hills when you reach the campground. It is great to ride along the Wapsipinicon river, and then through the campground itself. A wonderful addition to Central City! if you have your children with you, there are several amazing playgrounds with a rubberized surface, as well as all accessible swings, etc.!

Heritage Trail (IA)

Loved it!

May, 2023 by allyn.dana

This was a fantastic trail, very compact crushed limestone rail trail through a variety of environments. From cliff walls to farmland and following a nice stream and all mostly shaded! I can’t recommend this trail enough. We rode from Sageville (we found no parking at the Dubuque end of the trail so recommend going to the trailhead in Sageville) to Dyersville and back. Heading to Dyersville is a slight incline which made the ride back to Dubuque a little easier. Bathrooms and shelters at several stops along the trail. If I’m not mistaken you cross over 32 railroad bridges- all well maintained! Will definitely ride this one again.

Cheese Country Recreation Trail

Good ride with the right bike.

May, 2023 by eagleswing

If you ride on skinny high pressure tires and wear a lot of lycra, this trail may not be for you as other reviews indicate. However if you ride a mountain bike with good suspension and are reasonably fit, (I'm 63) it's a nice ride. There are always one or two jerks on ATVs but the vast majority slow down and give a friendly wave as they go past. I recommend weekday travel.

Heritage Trail (IA)

needs to be paved

Beautiful trail. However the surface was a pain. The “gravel” was soft and bumpy for several miles. We would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

Military Ridge State Trail

October Solo ride - Verona to Dodgeville and back with overnight stay

October, 2022 by djones223

Took advantage of the mild weather forecasted and did the ride I had put off all summer. The fall leaves were just beyond their peak but still quite colorful. The trail surface was good except for some sections between Ridgeway and Dodgeville that were rutty and sandy. Restrooms were still open in Mt Horeb, Barneveld, and Ridgeway.
Stopped at the Brix cidery in Mt Horeb for cider and an apple cider doughnut. Stayed overnight at the Pine Ridge motel in Dodgeville - clean, quiet and only a couple hundred yards from the trail.

Clinton Discovery Trail

Beautiful Mississippi River View

October, 2022 by fqhgrbx7tc

You are able to start at the beautiful Eagle Point Park and travel through Clinton and end in Camanche. There is a huge hill at Eagle park that you might need to walk. You ride on the dike of the Mississippi river, then right through downtown Clinton. The path then takes you by Industrial area on hwy 30 but on your own path to Camanche. You travel through the town of Camanche in neighborhoods.

Cheese Country Recreation Trail

This is basically an ATV ride. There is no reason for anyone on a bike to do this unless you like fixing flats and rewelding bike parts.

Galena River Trail

beautiful trail - continue on to Chestnut mountain

August, 2022 by kauneb

What a beautiful and accessible trail, with a lovely range of scenery along the way. At the end of the official trail, turn right on a (lightly trafficked) country road to continue another couple of miles to the base of Chestnut Mountain ski lift. On the day we went, the lift was running and it was free for cyclists to go up and explore.

Bee Branch Trail

great connection to Heritage Trail

August, 2022 by 4bikerides

We had been on Heritage Trail and continued directly onto BeeLine trail without knowing it! it was VERY well down with passages under roads or could use a ramp to go up to road level. I was very impressed with what Dubuque had done with trail. we continued down to Mississippi river to Lock#11, all on one continuous bike trail. I read a review that morning to start at Heritage pond. we did that, road west for about 8 miles, then we were glad yo get to the paved section east toward downtown Dubuque and the river. great job putting it all together. we finished with about 28 miles.
