Court Hill Trail

Nice “In-Town” Bike / Wheelchair / Walking Path

June, 2023 by shardin1

This is a paved path that follows a nice wooded creek through the east side of Iowa City. Lots of little park areas & connector paths to various neighborhoods. Friendly people, attractive, safe & mostly tree-lined as well as with the ability to hear & see a creek. Occasional ducks! Perfect for dog-walking, kid walking & biking, indoor toilets & a drinking fountain mid-path. Includes a dog park at Scott Park. Not a hiking path for outdoor adventurers but perfect for a stroll or as part of a more strenuous walk, run, or ride.

Central City Trail (IA)

Very scenic and beautiful Trail!

We rode this trail in late May, 2023. The concrete trail is very wide, and just a few slight hills when you reach the campground. It is great to ride along the Wapsipinicon river, and then through the campground itself. A wonderful addition to Central City! if you have your children with you, there are several amazing playgrounds with a rubberized surface, as well as all accessible swings, etc.!

Loved it!

This was a fantastic trail, very compact crushed limestone rail trail through a variety of environments. From cliff walls to farmland and following a nice stream and all mostly shaded! I can’t recommend this trail enough. We rode from Sageville (we found no parking at the Dubuque end of the trail so recommend going to the trailhead in Sageville) to Dyersville and back. Heading to Dyersville is a slight incline which made the ride back to Dubuque a little easier. Bathrooms and shelters at several stops along the trail. If I’m not mistaken you cross over 32 railroad bridges- all well maintained! Will definitely ride this one again.

Great American Rail-Trail

Great Allegheny Trail southeast of Pittsburgh?

April, 2023 by eshawger

Surprised to see this amazing trail that has great bed and breakfasts along it is not noted as part of the Great American Rail Trail. It sure would help demonstrate more GART completion if it was.

Has little work out things on side of trail, that’s pretty awesome for them to have.

Kewash Nature Trail

Stopped here on my way across country on I 80. Worth the diversion, good surface and shade. Harvest time in Iowa so plenty to see. Good camping close by in Hills Iowa.

Heritage Trail (IA)

needs to be paved

Beautiful trail. However the surface was a pain. The “gravel” was soft and bumpy for several miles. We would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

Cedar Valley Nature Trail

Rode from Gilbertville to Hiawatha and the trail is in good shape throughout. Doable with a road bike, but a hybrid or something with a slightly wider tire is best on the unpaved section from the Cedar River to Urbana.

Hoover Nature Trail

The first part was fully overgrown. Maybe the sections in the north get better...

Wonderful trail - Note Dyersville end notes in my review

July, 2022 by pxtaylor

Loved riding this trail. Very shaded for the most part and well maintained. The last few miles to Dyersville gets exposed to the sun and wind. Many things to see along the way and many selfie ops. The trail map indicated water and picnic shelter at Dyersville end. When I got there the trail terminates at the end of Beltline Rd, by a lumber yard, I found no facilities there and turned around. Checking Google Maps I later found that you have to ride another 0.6 miles along Beltline Rd to get to the trailhead and this is not obvious or signed when you get to the "end" of the gravel. I'm sure many like me would have turned around also as you can't see the trailhead when you look down Beltline Rd.
