So much fun!

Nicely paved and well maintained. It looks like it’s about to expand and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Nice way to spend a beautiful day biking 16+ miles on an asphalt trail. They are currently doing work putting in new telephone poles.

Vandalia Trail

tough but fun

Sunday, October 16, 2022, I parked at the Greencastle trail head, then proceeded to ride all the way to Amo, which was roughly 11.6 miles. I visited the Amo general store (ice cream not open yet, boo!) for a snack, then biked all the way back to Greencastle.
It was a gorgeous fall day, fortunately. However, riding on gravel is not the easiest way to go, even when it's a little packed down. I was so happy to get to the paved portion of this trail!
All told, I enjoyed my adventure. There were places when I had to dodge walnuts, hickory nuts and the like strewn in the pathway but that was part of the show. As the day was extremely windy, going through the open fields was loud! In some places the trees formed a lovely canopy. There were numerous places to rest, and the bathrooms at the Amo trail head were clean and large enough to accommodate my bike so I didn't have to worry about locking it up while I used the restroom. I didn't use the restrooms in Coatesville. They're probably as well kept.
It had been a couple months since I'd been out on my bike for a long ride, and in places, my rear end was feeling, so on the return trip I stopped to walk and push the bike to give my bottom a break. Other riders who passed slowed down to make sure I was okay. I appreciated that.
I definitely recommend this trail and hope to ride it again.

Kickapoo Rail Trail

Enjoyed a beautiful ride through fields East of Urbana, IL to St. Joseph. Paved approaches to road crossings and nice surfaces for the trail. Multiple bike stations for minor repaira and free at the East end at the Casey's.

Vandalia Trail

Great Trail

Enjoyed this very much, lots of shady spots, very peaceful and pretty Indiana Farmland. Did the full trail round trip starting in Amo. We had our fat tire rad power bikes to help the old girls along and it was great!!! Very sore after 23 miles even with the pedal assist.

Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail

wonderful trail

100 percent ashphalt! Straight with nice towns on either end. New bathroom stop 1/2 way. Great length and a nature center at one end. Worth the effort.

First experience on trail not good!

July, 2022 by gciolli4940

In the first mile today was met by two unleashed dogs near VCSC building. On my return the same two were charged me and my pet (who was leashed). I fortunately had a poop scoop with me to fend off both dogs. Contacted WTH Police Dept. who indicated they were familiar with the dogs around the area of 4th & Olive. Not blaming the dogs and will give benifit of doubt to owners who may not have been aware the collared dogs were loose. Just want future guests of park to be aware of the risk they may encounter and to be prepared just in case.

First experience on trail not so good!

July, 2022 by gciolli4940

One mile from bro walk in WTH, was attacked by two neigh hood dogs (4th & Olive). Luckily had poop scoop with me and was able to fend off. Again on way back same to dogs. Reported to WTH police who were familiar with dogs. Will wait a few weeks to see if owners take responsibility before attempting another walk. Landscape looks awesome and well maintained. Just be aware if you have children or pets !!!

Sugar Creek Trail

Nice trail

Got on at the High school. About 3 floors of steps going down (and up later). to narrow cement path, but it got better a mile or so in. Nice asphalt with a few areas of root "rises" halfway in or so. Pay attention to area that it goes through congested area with Pizza Hut and other stores. Easy to lose path if you're not familiar. Measured 4.95 miles to end of path, and it ends with nowhere else to go. Not crowded with a few walkers and dog walkers. Didn't see another biker all day.

Vandalia Trail

Average to Good Trail

I rode the 12 mile portion from Greencastle to Amo. I enjoy rural rail trails without lots of traffic and noise, so this trail was nice in that respect. Things I did not like as well were trying to dodge all the mulberries on the trail - made a mess on me and the bike, and going on and off the railbed in multiple places due to parallel trails.

Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail

very nice functional trail but nothing extraordinary about it

If you happen to be in Charleston IL then definitely visit it, but don’t go out of your way to visit it It is in very excellent condition, 95% paved despite the photo on this website Straight as an arrow, one slight turn in 11 miles. Very nice nature center about 3 miles from end in Mattoon Il.
