This trail has a lot of great potential, but it’s implementation and maintenance is lacking. There are multiple areas that add to the length and completely unnecessary, such as around Kippling Street. That section is just terrible. It takes you through a parking lot and doesn’t even give you priority and is very dangerous when there’s cars parked around you and people are pulling in and out of the recreation center. Hopefully a bridge is constructed soon. The trail was also littered with debris and construction material. I was afraid I was going to pop my tired. No signage either so good luck if you’ve never used the trail before, I had to stop multiple times to check directions.

Beautiful scenic views at the west end near the reservoir, but bad signage throughout the trail. Highly recommend riding it with the map open on your phone until you remember the turns
First trail I've tried using the app. It was a nice ride. My trike made it through easily. Most of one way is downhill so the return was a little more tiring. Overall, pretty fun for an evening ride.
The greenway is beautiful and a wonderful ride! However, south of America the Beautiful Park there are multiple homeless encampments, especially under the bridges.
This is a fine trail for hiking, but not for biking. Trail surface is mostly loose gravel, there is usually one track on the side that is firm enough to ride on. This trail is not suitable for kids and occasional riders because of the loose material and steep grade. I have ridden rail trails in 42 states and this one is the steepest I have encountered, probably because it was a narrow gauge railway. The steep grade, high altitude and loose material make the trail challenging for casual riders. I was constantly in the lower two gears of my mountain bike, and uphill averaged 4 mph with breaks.
The portage around the collapsed tunnel is an unimproved hiking trail and will be difficult for kids and older adults. It would require a stout person to handle the portage with an electric bike.
A better bike ride is the gold camp road. Although there is some car traffic the surface is much better. Start at pullout No. 1 near the Bear Creek Nature Center (245 Bear Creek Road) and ride up hill 5 miles to the parking lot near Hellen Hunt Falls. That is 3 miles of asphalt and 2.3 miles gravel with one tunnel, turn around and coast back to your car.
Would recommend respirator unless you like carbon monoxide. Very wide surface and less dangerous than the road. Lots of parallel traffic. Air quality alert.
Started in Golden, went all the way to the South Platte River, and back. As of today there are no problems nor detours, excepting some artists working on painting cool stuff on the actual concrete trail towards the South Platte end, and that's just 2 very short sections just to the side of the concrete part of the trail. Not a problem. I have enjoyed this trail for the better part of 20 years, and there are no longer any more partially-finished sections. If you don't live in Golden, I recommend starting at the South Platte and working your way up the "hill" to Golden ... then you are more or less going downhill on the second half of the ride. Just a teensy bit easier.
Enjoy!
Oh, 5 stars because it is a nice long trail in the city that, with the exception of a small section, is all trail, and no streets.
Great trail to bike and the sound of the river made it even better!
No where near Cherry Hills or Greenwood village.
If you go to the park at the beginning of the trail to the west the map takes you to an open field! Far from the actual trail spent two wasted hours!
