400 State Trail

We cycled seven Rails to Trails in five days including the 400 State Trail

Wisconsin Bike Trip Report - Cycle Seven Rails to Trails in Five Days: In August 2022, our group of 11 went on a self-guided partially supported bike ride covering seven Rails to Trails in Central Wisconsin near La Crosse, Sparta and Eau Claire. Turned out to be an amazing trip with great weather, except the last day during which it rained. Great variety of environments and trails, including some short bridges and long tunnels, shaded woodlands and bright prairie. Attached is a pdf detailing the logistics and planning we carried out to make the trip happen. TrailLink.com has great description of each individual trail. Over five days of riding we covered:
1. Elroy-Sparta State Trail
2. Great River State Trail
3. La Crosse River State Trail
4. 400 State Trail
5. Red Cedar State Trail
6. Chippewa River State Trail
7. Old Abe Trail

Wiouwash State Trail

Meh..

October, 2022 by the_masseuse

Did the whole Southern segment. Was a decent trail..the usual trail trail..nothing spectacular. The part of the trail running along the water is pretty. Low rating is for the all the horse **** up n down the entire trail. The leaves this time of year really hide the piles.

Green Circle Trail

Loved It

This trail system is awesome and will def be back when I can spend the whole day exploring all of them! It was pleasantly surprised to see it ran through the sculpture garden! Love that it passes by water and has boardwalks.

Elroy-Sparta State Trail

This trail was great, beautiful farm country to ride through. As well as challenging tunnels. It was an uphill climb from Sparta to tunnel 3, but the return was well worth the effort. Will be back again!

Elroy-Sparta State Trail

Trail To Ourselves (Almost)

October, 2022 by johnrobhill

Rode on a sunny weekday in October. We encountered (maybe) 10 people the entire time. (Except for a school group on foot--in the middle of nowhere). Can anyone say anything negative about this trail?

Omaha Trail

Seen Better Days!

Did this trail as a warm up to the Elroy-Sparta trail the same day.
Trail hasn't been maintained in what would appear to be years! Cracks, grass, ruts. Not awful--but needs a lot of TLC

We rode from Ringle to Weston. Nice ride

400 State Trail

Reedsburg to Elroy - nice early October ride, but too early for max leaf color

October, 2022 by mollinger

I always wanted to check the 400 Trail out. On October 2nd I had the time to tackle it. The trail was in excellent condition and the low 60s temps made for great riding. I was probably a week or two too early for optimal leaf color. There were some nice reds and yellows here and there, but I bet the trees will look awesome in mid-October. I'll be back again.
