I looked forward to riding this trail as it is one of the longer rail trails in Ohio. There are several points of interest along this trail such as the Hopewell Mound Group Area of the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, the Double D Bridge, a covered bridge near McClean, and the Shaw Wetlands & Vernal Pool near Washington Court House.
However, like other reviewers of the Pine Creek Recreation Trail here at TrailLink.com, I believe there are a number of things that can be improved on this trail to make it much better. First, a lot of the trail needs resurfacing. There are too many cracks, potholes and tree root uplifting in the trail's asphalt which makes for rough riding. Secondly, there is a need for more bathrooms (or port-a-johns) and sources of water along the trail. I felt fortunate that I rode I on a cool, cloudy day. There is also a need for directional signs at the few points where the trail appears to go off in two different directions. Without signs, one can go off in the wrong direction and add unnecessary mileage to your ride, such as I did. Finally, make sure you bring sun screen as the western end of this trail runs through unshaded farmland. This trail is not bad, but it's obvious that it has been neglected for a while. Therefore, it doesn't live up to its potential.
Rode this trail north towards Middletown. Not too much fun in the direct sunshine. Wouldn’t recommend this if it’s not cloudy. We will try and hit this same trail farther north to see if it is any better. We saw nothing like the pic they show as trees weren’t around this trail at all.
This trail has lots of potential with scenic views but is in dire need of maintenance and signage. I planned to do the full 70 mile round trip but stopped at just over 23 to avoid damage to my road bike.
Trail surface in super condition; mostly dappled shade. Quiet on a Monday in late May. Great place to stay in YS is Arthur Morgan B&B; we’ve been there several times and enjoy the town.

Three and a half stars Rode Simon Kenton trail from Bellefountaine to West Liberty and back (14 mile round trip). It is a seal and chip surface in very good condition done in 2018 (https://www.simonkentonpathfinders.org/about/). It is a rail-to-trail so it is basically flat. The trail runs alongside a set of train tracks - as noted in other reviews - no shade except in the late afternoon / evening. Not anything particularly attractive about the trail other than a new place to ride.
We did Avoca Park to Lake Isabella Park on this trail today. About 20 miles round trip. It was an absolute beauty of a ride. The trail is wide and well maintained. There are lots of toilet spots and it only crosses a handful of small, low-traffic roads. I highly recommend this ride.
Surprised to see this amazing trail that has great bed and breakfasts along it is not noted as part of the Great American Rail Trail. It sure would help demonstrate more GART completion if it was.

I started this trail (bike) in Dayton, just off on 3rd street. The entire trail was poorly marked - at one point I didn't know if I was on the trail. It turns out I wasn't. Trail was full of broken glass and trash. Absolutely ridiculous. Whoever maintains the trail, Dayton City or Montgomery County - should be embarrassed.
Looks like this trail will be extended.
